In the wake of Oscar Grant's murder, the Akonadi foundation established the Oscar Grant Peace and Racial Justice Fund in order to provide mini-grants for "events, meetings, materials, communications, leadership development activities, documentation, and other costs related to the immediate organizing, advocacy, and cultural work in Oakland in response to the shooting of Oscar Grant."
